Enhancing Security for Vertical Handoff in SARAH under the Heterogeneous Networks

SARAH (Selective Advance Reservations and resource-Aware Handoff direction) [1] was designed to increase the efficiency of handoff in both L2 and L3 communications. However, the design was not considered to operate under the heterogeneous environments. In this paper, we discuss the security problems of SARAH such as privacy, authentication, key management, etc.. We propose a solution by separating the neighbor mapping table from the base station and suggest a concept of the neighbor mapping server which binds IP address and MAC address and manages security policies and secure parameters. Finally, we show the implementation results of our design to verify the practical aspects of our idea. We claim that our idea shows the secure solution for SARAH to be used under the heterogeneous environments. security issues on SARAH in the heterogeneous networks.
